In the western part of Veliuona, you can visit and admire the impressive masonry chapel from the Zaleski family's era.
In 1844, the Zaleski family of Veliuona constructed a burial chapel. It was the most prestigious spot in the cemetery, reserved for the interment of noble and wealthy individuals. The chapel had an entrance and stairs on the side facing the Nemunas River, and an altar inside.
Services were held in the chapel on All Saints' Day and during All Souls' Day for the Zaleski family members. During World War I, the chapel's roof was damaged by a shell. The crumbling masonry chapel of the Zaleski family remained a prominent feature and symbol of the cemetery. Over the years, it deteriorated further. By 2019, only the walls with pointed arches of doors and windows, characteristic of the architectural style, were left. The chapel has since been restored after many years of decay.
