Viešvilė Lourdes

Viešvilės lurdas

In Viešvilė, not only the charming church next to the forest invites visitors to pray and find spiritual peace, but also the newly built Viešvilė Lourdes. As Father Kęstutis Pajaujis of Viešvilė describes, this place attracts the faithful for prayer, newlyweds for photos, and mothers seeking blessings for their children. The Lourdes was built to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the first apparition of St. Mary at Lourdes, as well as Lithuania’s centennial.

With the efforts of the priest and the community, the Lourdes was constructed using newly reconstructed and paved town streets, especially sidewalks. During the street renovation, cultural treasures were uncovered—stone cobblestones from the German era emerged beneath the road surface. These stones were transported to a nearby square and the Lourdes. Road workers, foresters, parishioners, and municipal employees all contributed to the construction of this Lourdes.

We invite you to Viešvilė to not only meet the wonderful and active priest but also to rejuvenate in the unique natural surroundings of Viešvilė and experience the tranquility of the Viešvilė Lourdes.
