The Šilinė Botanical Reserve is located right next to the Panemunė Regional Park administration and is often simply known as Šilinė Forest. It offers beautiful nature and tranquility for those wishing to take a walk.
Šilinė Oak Grove is a unique natural monument that recalls the times of pagan beliefs and the oak cult. In ancient times, people recognized the oak's longevity and its power. Lithuanians believed that the god Perkūnas lived in the oak. Oaks were especially revered when elders gathered beneath them to ask for health, believing in the trees' healing powers. It was thought that young deceased or fallen people transformed into trees. The oak is the national tree of Lithuania. Its leaf wreaths are used to honor laureates, sports champions, anniversaries, name days, and the most distinguished guests.
