The homestead of artist Lidija Meškaitytė is located 2 km north of Smalininkai. It was built in the 19th century and is where the self-taught artist from Lithuania Minor, Lida Meškaitytė, was born and lived (1926–1993). She left behind a significant collection of watercolor miniatures.
The artist sensitively, with love and meticulous attention to detail, depicted scenes of her homeland and loved ones in her paintings. Meškaitytė's work can be seen at the Vincas Grybas Memorial Museum in Jurbarkas and the Miniature Museum of the Lithuanian Art Museum in Juodkrantė.
