The Šilalė Region Museum began to take shape in 1962, when the Šilalė branch of the Lithuanian Regional History Society was established.
In 1994, the museum was officially recognized as the Šilalė Region Museum.
In 1998, it became a division of the Šilalė District Municipality Public Library.
Since 2003, the museum has been a part of the Cultural Center.
