Monument to Vytautas the Great in Jurbarkas

Category: Historic Monuments
Paminklas Vytautui Didžiajam

The oldest monument in Jurbarkas is dedicated to Vytautas the Great. It was erected in 1930 by sculptor Vincas Grybas, who had moved to the town in 1928. This bust monument is characterized by a romantic elevation, historical ornamentation, intricate technique, and high-quality materials that have preserved its form against the elements. During the Soviet occupation, the monument was vandalized, with many important details destroyed, including the removal of national symbols and the commemorative plaque. In 1990, the monument was restored. Today, Jurbarkas residents celebrate national holidays at this site.
