Paminklas Zalcburgiečiams

On June 4, 1998, a monument was unveiled in the center of Vilkyškiai to honor the people from the Salzburg region who settled in Little Lithuania after the great plague of 1709-1711. The monument features two wooden beams, resembling cart shafts attached to a broken wheel, symbolizing the arduous journey to a distant and unfamiliar country. The inscription on the granite plaques reads in both Lithuanian and German: "To the Salzburg Protestants of the 18th century who found their New Homeland here by the Nemunas River." The monument was designed by Šarūnas Arbačiauskas.
