A granite monument engraved with approximately 180 names honors the Lithuanian partisans who fell in the Šilalė district. However, recent data indicates that around 330 freedom fighters lost their lives in resistance battles in the area. The district was the site of significant resistance efforts, with notable leaders such as Aleksandras Milaševičius-Ruonis, commander of the Western Lithuania (Jūros) district; Vladas Montvydas-Žemaitis, commander of the Žemaitija Brigade; and Petras Balčinas-Pušis, commander of the Butigeidžio Battalion. The conflict in Šilalė lasted nearly 15 years and concluded in 1959. The monument was solemnly consecrated in the autumn of 1998. One of its key initiators and creators was Titas Žymančius.
