The church in Veliuona was built on the orders of Grand Duke Vytautas in 1421 and was rebuilt in 1644. It is one of the oldest churches in Lithuania. The sanctuary is rich in historical and artistic treasures from various eras. The pillars and walls are adorned with paintings by artists such as Petras Kalpokas, the Italian-born Mykolas Elvyro Andriolis, Vytautas Gerulaitis, and others. In the churchyard rest the remains of the renowned priest and folklorist Antanas Juška, brought from Kazan, and his brother Jonas Juška, who greatly contributed to the Lithuanian language.
