Building Complext of Tauragė Post

Category: Architecture
Tauragės pašto pastatų kompleksas

In the Post Office, there was postal service, a horse exchange point, a military barracks, a hotel, a tavern, a 'clean' hall for arriving gentlemen and a 'dirty' one for servants, priests, postmen - rest rooms. The premises testifying to this have survived in the Tauragė Post Office to this day, only it is unknown which side was intended for whom. On October 10, 1843, Honoré de Balzac stayed in the postal tavern, where he wrote a letter to his future wife, Polish Countess Eveline Hanska, to St. Petersburg. This is the only letter Balzac wrote in Lithuania.
