Since the 18th century, German craftsmen and traders lived in the part of Skirsnemunė known as Žvyriai. The Žvyriai Evangelical Lutheran Church was built in 1849, although the parish had been active since the late 18th century. The church is small, wooden, and has a tower. During the Soviet era, when many Evangelical Lutheran places of worship were closed, this church became a gathering center for believers from the surrounding areas.
