Sometimes we travel half the world without having seen the most beautiful places in Lithuania. The "Green Region," which connects the municipalities of Jurbarkas, Šilalė, Tauragė, and Pagėgiai districts, certainly has something to offer everyone—from breathtaking natural scenery to remote corners that tell ancient legends and stories of modern life.

The name "Green Region" was not chosen by chance. In this landscape, known as the "Green Region," the past, present, and future intertwine, offering each traveler a unique route through intriguing historical labyrinths and nature trails. "After exploring this magnificent area, you will quickly understand why this name was chosen. The harmony of natural beauty and culture creates a special atmosphere. We want to preserve all of this, which is why we opt for green electricity and strive to make tourism services environmentally friendly. Visitors can travel on eco-friendly electric buses, and those driving electric vehicles will find charging stations in all the region's towns," says G. Mačiulaitienė, inviting those planning a trip to the "Green Region" to discover its most beautiful natural spots.

You will see a castle of incredible beauty when you arrive in Tauragė—one of the most important historical monuments in this region.

"In fact, Tauragė Castle was never a typical castle—it functioned as a customs office and later a prison. Today, it houses the regional museum 'Santaka,' where various cultural events, concerts, and exhibitions are regularly held. One of the legends says that beneath the castle is an undiscovered tunnel leading to Tauragė Manor under the Jūra River. Visitors will surely enjoy the well-kept park area with excellently maintained walking paths, rest zones, and picnic areas," shares Gaiva Mačiulaitienė, head of the Green Region. In Tauragė, you can also participate in the first and only educational program in Lithuania about renewable energy, "The Wind is Green." With the help of virtual reality glasses, you can ascend to a height of 220 meters and see not only the inside of a wind turbine and its mechanisms but also the landscape from above.

Take time to explore the town of Tauragė and the district, nestled among the loops of the Jūra River, impressive hills, and scenic cliffs. See the spectacular Pagramantis cliff, whose layers reveal almost 200,000 years of history, and walk the Plynosios Bog and Akmena nature trails. While in Tauragė, make sure to visit Pagramantis Regional Park, a true sanctuary of nature. Here, the landscape is enhanced by majestic river valleys, impressive cliffs, and hanging bridges. From the observation tower in Pagramantis, located at the confluence of the Akmena and Jūra rivers, you can admire the full beauty of the landscape, and down by the river, you can feel the different temperatures of the converging waters.

While traveling through this region, you'll not only enjoy the sights but also immerse yourself in culture and art, as the abundance of cultural events delights both locals and visitors year-round. For instance, the Tauragė JAZZ Festival and the International Tauragė Music Festival attract people from all over Lithuania. The latter is organized by opera soloist Liudas Mikalauskas, who hails from this town. The Vilkyškiai Organ Music Festival is also worth your attention, offering chamber music performances in churches, along with the Veliuona Summer Festival, Medvėgalis Arts Festival, and Bijotai Manor Festival, which invite listeners to return each year to this beautiful region to experience culture and lift their spirits.

"We want to open the treasure chest of our region's heritage, traditions, and creativity to everyone, so we invite you to come and see it for yourself. We are confident that we will have something to surprise both first-time visitors and those returning again," says Gaiva Mačiulaitienė, director of VŠĮ "Green Region."
